For a quick estimate of new gutters
The downspouts we use come in three differient sizes. The two most common are the 2"x3" and the 3"x4". The 2"x3" downspouts are commonly matched with the 5" k-style gutters (described on the "gutter options" page of our site) and have a 6 square inch opening. The 3"x4" downspouts are commonly matched with the bigger 6" k-style gutters and have a 12 square inch opening. The downspouts are connected to the gutter via a hand punched hole. In order to maximize the "flow capacity", an outlet tube is then cut from the downspout itself.
Size difference is important when it comes to the downspouts The bigger they are, the less chance they have of becoming clogged and practicly useless. We offer interchangable sizes. Therefore we have different combinations available for your preference. EX: If you desire a 5" k-style gutter with a 3"x4" downspout that is not a problem, the cost difference is small in compairison to the differience in the product and functionality.
The downspouts are connected via a cleat that is fastened to the back of the spout and screwed onto the wall. The cleat holds the spout away from the house 1/4 of an inch, therefore moisture accumulation on the outside of the metal will not affect the siding on your house and freezing within the downspout is less likeley to occure on cold winter days.
